On Wednesday, April 19, 2017 the U.S. Secret Service said it would end public access to a sidewalk along the south fence of the White House. The sidewalk has been closed at nights from  11 p.m. to 6 a.m.  since 2015 and will now be off-limits entirely.  Secret Service Communications Director Cathy Milhoan said the closure will “lessen the possibility of individuals illegally accessing the White House grounds”.   In March, a man scaled a fence east of the White House at night and was on the property’s grounds for 16 minutes before being detained.

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) relieved Edgardo Bauza of his duties as manager earlier this month and Sampaoli is the man they want to replace him. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has released details of how the committee raised by President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke, plans on carrying out its mandate. Speaking on behalf of the VP, his spokesperson, Laolu Akande, in a statement, on Saturday, said that the committee would “invite all relevant officials and private individuals who may be connected to both cases.” Akande added that the panel would “obtain and scrutinize documents that may throw some light on the issues raised in both cases.” Mr. Osinbajo said the panel “will conduct it’s work with utmost diligence and without fear or favour” and submit its report to the President at the expiration of the 14-day deadline given to it.

veteran Nollywood actor  Olumide Bakare  has been confirmed dead in the early hours of today according to reports from Nigerian Tribune It said that his death, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, was confirmed by his personal assistant, who was with him. Bakare has been sick for over a year and reports say, aside suffering low blood flow into the heart, there were also indications of a lung-related disease. The death was also confirmed by actor  Saidi Balogun . “Yes, it is true Olumide Bakare is dead. He died on his way to his hospital. When I called his number, his personal assistant picked his phone and told me he was dead. That’s how much I can say for now,” Balogun told Tribune on the telephone.

New York City based Nigerian-American Filmmaker,  Faraday Okoro  has won a grant of $1million from  AT&T  at the  2017 Tribeca Film Festival  in New York for his proposed movie, “ Nigerian Prince “. The movie which centers around Nigerian scammers was written and directed by Faraday Okoro and produced by another Nigerian,  Biyi Bandele  and  Oscar Hernandez-Topete . The movie was announced the winner after a hard-fought pitching session tagged “AT&T Presents: Untold Stories” which involved four other very talented filmmakers. The session was the first edition of the AT&T and Tribeca new film initiative. In a circular issued on Friday, the apex bank directed banks to revert to old charges and refund customers who had been debited. The CBN had earlier announced new charges on deposit and withdrawals above a threshold of N500,000. The apex bank had directed banks to charge 5% and 10% for deposits and withdrawals above N40m in the corporate category. However, in the circular signed by Director of banking and payments system department, Dipo Fatokun, CBN ordered banks to refund customers who have been debited and revert to former policy.

Mr. and Mrs. Imudia Uduehi, have welcomed a set of quintuplets - five girls. According to media practitioner, Lara Wise who shared their story online, the couple reside at Ikenna borehole in Abuja. The wife got pregnant shortly after their wedding and barely 8 months after she conceived naturally, doctors at the National hospital had to bring out her babies through C.S recently. Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, has given a possible reason why the Federal Executive Council meeting did not hold Wednesday, April 19th. Speaking to state house correspondents this afternoon, Garba Shehu said: “The staff on the Council secretariat resumed on Tuesday after the Easter. There was no time to prepare and circulate memos to ministers. By practice, the ministers receive council memos two or three days ahead of meetings because they must read them and sometimes undertake research. It is not a rubber stamp council. So everyone must prepare themselves well for debates”. The Police Special Squad have arrested the administrator of Ijumu Local governmental area of Kogi State, Hon. Taofiq Isa, in connection with the failed assassination attempt on Senator Dino Melaye at his Kogi home on Saturday April 15th.  According to reports, Isa was arrested at about 1.30pm  in Lokoja, the state capital. He was arrested during his visit to the Commissioner for Education in the state, Sunday Tolorunleke. Dino had earlier accused the administrator of having a hand in the failed assassination attempt. Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Wilson Inalegwu who confirmed Isa's arrest, said the command was working to arrest those believed to behind the failed assassination attempt. He noted that the command would arrest and investigate anyone suspected to be linked with the case.
